Lithuanian retail chain Maxima received permission to start its expansion into Poland’s retail market. The Baltic giant , who already operates some 459 retail supermarkets in the Baltic States and Bulgaria has received approval from Poland’s anti-monopoly watchdog, the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection, (UOKiK) for takeover of the Polish supermarket chain Aldik Nova, the Warsaw Business Journal portal reported on 29 December.
Although the exact size of the transaction has not been revealed, it is expected to be sizeable, as under Polish law a transaction is subject UOKiK approval if it involves undertakings with a total turnover exceeding €1 billion globally or €50 million in Poland the Journal reported.
