46 year-old Arvydas Sabonis has been active in the business world for a long time, although not very successfully, and this year is just tragic for him, delfi.lt wrote on 15 October. Due to a threat of bankruptcy, A. Sabonis got rid of shares of ‘Sabonis club and partners’ enterprise, which is producing plastic windows and renting out premises.
According to „Lietuvos rytas“, 2011 is a year of nightmare for A. Sabonis. In the beginning of October Klaipėda’s district court decided that enterprise ‚Eskapė‘, owned by ‚Sabonis club and partners‘, must announce bankruptcy. Last year A. Sabonis’ basketball school, also founded by this enterprise, could not prevent the financial fall. Glass cutting enterprise „SKP Klaipėda“ has also disappeared from the map of enterprises, bankrupt case was also initiated for ‚SKP Investments‘ enterprise in the same year.
As the newspaper states, there are rumours in ex-basketball player’s environment that his health was seriously shook not only by tight preparation for European basketball championship, but also because of financial situation of his enterprises, which was getting worse.
A. Sabonis’ wealth is valued around 50 mln. litas. It consists of shares of ‘SKP glass’, ‘In pine shade’, ‘Orange basketball ball’, shares of other enterprises, real estate, existing in Kaunas centre.
