Lithuania’s President Grybauskaite stated that she is in favour resolving the issue regarding allegations made by the USA media about possible CIA ‘black sites’ in Lithuanian. In the press conference today she said, ‘What’s important is for Lithuania to be fearless and be open to investigating its past mistakes, and, even more importantly, to draw conclusions whether one or another department can serve as a state within a state, and whether two-three officers can determine Lithuania’s fate by turning the law and exceeding their mandate. I would like these questions answered.’
Grybauskaite is also due to be questioned by the Parliamentary National Security and Defence Committee, which is currently probing into those allegations that Lithuania. However, the President stated that she would like to meet the Committee after it questioned ‘one person’. She said at the press conference, ‘I am expecting appearance of one person at the committee, and as soon as he testifies, I will make a written reply because I was asked in this form. I will answer what I know.’
When asked whom she has in mind Grybauskaite said, ‘Keep an eye on the flow of visitors.’
The Committee has questioned some 30 persons already and some 15 persons are still awaiting their turn. Today the Committee questioned the former President Adamkus, ex PM Brazaukas and ex Seimas speaker Paulaukas.
LNK channel speculated that this ‘one person’ mentioned by the President is the current head of the State Security Department Malakauskas. However, Lietuvos Ryto TV said that it is probably Albinas Januska, the former adviser to ex-president Valdas Adamkus and ex-PM Gediminas Kirkilas, also called a ‘grey cardinal’. The committee questioned Mr Malakauskas today.
