Interpellation process against Minister of Energy has begun

The opposition managed to start the interpellation against the Minister of Energy Arvydas Sekmokas.  The initiator of the interpellation, the elder of the opposition Order and Justice party Valentinas Mazuronis said that the text of interpellation contains questions ‘about the gas sector, the situation in the energy sector, there are also questions about the ministry’s financial and economic matters, as well as possible employment of relatives and party fellows.’  Questions about the status of the new nuclear station are also included in the text.  Lithuanian public TV broadcaster informed that there are 25 questions addressed to the Minster.

Some 70 MPs signed under the text, almost all opposition MPs, but one, signed the text, including three members of ruling coalition.

The minister has two weeks to answer the questions. After hearing the answers Seimas adopts a resolution approving or rejecting the answers.  According to Seimas statue, the resolution rejecting the minister’s answers needs at least 71 votes. In case if a such resolution is adopted the minister has to resign.
