Almost 16,000 Lithuanians emigrated to United Kingdom in 2009, almost 6000 more than the year before, the newest official Great Britain statistics revealed.
Official data shows that 15,815 Lithuanians arrived for a long-term stay in Great Britain during 2009.
Also, 16,020 Latvians fled their country for the UK – 2.5 times more than in 2008.
Meanwhile Poles are not so keen to emigrate to England anymore. Only 118,675 of them changed their place of residence to the UK in 2009, while in 2008 there were 151,870 new Polish emigrants there.
Overall in 2009 there were 4 percent or 33,000 less immigrants than in 2008. Last year, 567,000 people immigrated to the UK, in comparison to 590,000 two years ago.
Also, some 24.6 percent of babies born in Great Britain were given birth to by foreigners.
