Yesterday, Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius met with President of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy, who paid a visit to Vilnius, and thanked him for the efforts and personal input in the negotiation regarding the Multiannual Financial Framework for 2014–2020, informs lrv.lt. The reached agreement in principal serves Lithuania’s interests.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius and President of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy emphasised the necessity for the EU to seek financial stability through all instruments available. Additionally, the formation of an internal energy market and the development of energy and transport infrastructure networks could also contribute to a faster economic growth and rise in employment.
According to the Lithuanian Prime Minister, the jointly built EU should be not only stable and strong but also secure. “This we can achieve by developing close ties with our neighbours. The Eastern Partnership policy is based on values and it has a pragmatic foundation; therefore, its success depends on the efforts and persistent work”, the Prime Minister concluded in the meeting with the President of the European Council.
