Today President Dalia Grybauskaitė invoked first veto to the Law adopted in the Parliament. According to the Constitution of the Republic of Lithuania the adopted Law might be vetoed by the President and the Parliament has to use qualitative majority in order to overcome it.
First veto went to the Law, which had to lower social insurance level for all the citizens on the maternity leave. According to the President it was aligned to the constitutional principle of fair expectations as those on the maternity leave would be heavily affected if the law came into force.
