Russia to deploy S-400 anti-aircraft systems in Kaliningrad
“The military will receive several S-400 anti-aircraft missile systems this year,” said Alexander Zelin, the Russian Commander-in-Chief.
The new system had been planned to be deployed around Moscow, however, that plan was altered during implementation.
Russia will deploy the Triumf, S-400, anti-aircraft missiles in Kaliningrad’s seaside and border regions. The Western Military District is expected to be first to receive the new anti-aircraft missiles in 2012. Then, the S-400 will be deployed in the remaining border regions of the Kaliningrad Oblast, delfi.lt reported on 13th February.
At present, there are two regiments equipped with the S-400, and they are stationed near Moscow, in Electrostal, and Dmitrov. Also, it had been reported earlier that two additional regiments will be stationed near Moscow in 2012.
In order to rearm Russia’s military, with this anti-aircraft missile system, it is intended to construct three new factories for the manufacture of anti-aircraft, and anti-missile, defense systems.
Plans to purchase new S-400 anti-aircraft missiles are included in Russia’s State Armament Program. RUB 23 trillion has been allocated to the program, which provides for the purchase of 56 divisions of S-400 anti-aircraft missile systems, each division consisting of 8 launchers, by 2020.
