Daily Mail — Britons the dunces of Europe: More Lithuanians are achieving A-level standards than our children
Lithuanians are the most educated throughout the European Union – Eurostat data shows that 92 per cent Lithuanian adults from 25 to 64 years have a higher than the secondary education, lrytas.lt reports.
In the second place are the Czechs, with 91.1 per cent, Slovaks are in the third (91 per cent), Estonians – on the fourth (89.2 percent).
The lowest rates are in Turkey and Malta, where only 30 per cent of adults have a higher than secondary education.
These statistical indicators must be a big blow to the British self-esteem. “Britons are the dunces of Europe: More Lithuanians are achieving A-level standards than our children”, – reads the headline of an article published in the Daily Mail portal.
Britain is nineteenth in the list – only 76.1 percent are educated to A-level standart.

Miau, it seems that Billy Bob is working in super market / Mc Donald’s in UK. So he is a bit upset, because he will never get a higher than secondary education. Poor Billy… To make matters worse, I can ensure you that good and motivated students after graduation of Vilnius University (it is in the picture above) will always get jobs of their speciality.
Actually, Lithuanians are better educated than British. Yes, they do less experiments, because education is based on theory. The biggest problem is that education programs are heading towards the Western Europe model. Believing that you only have to study what you like is not bad, but you never know what knowledge might be needed at some point in your life. Of course you should study what you like on a higher level. Billy Bob, i can see that you are a Lithuanian, but if we are such a stupid country, why does Lithuania always win gold or silver medal in physics, biology and other world class events ? Also, why are Lithuanian workers ranked better in all of Europe ? It’s because we are smarter and we are willing to do what is needed for the job to get done. Oh and by the way, we are also not lazy like most of people from Western Europe.
Ah but is true education all in the matter of sitting in building studying what someone else has either learned or has access to? I think it is hardly a measurement of intelligence tho it is a measure of opportunity afforded them.
The difference is of course that Britons study subjects that they are actually interested in and that they will need to help in their career in the future, Lithuanians study any subject, because in Lithuanian society its more important to have a degree, no matter what, than to actually study the subject you are interested in, and most Lithuanins will go for the easy option to get a pass, just so that they wont be working in Maxima stacking shelves for the rest of their lives.
