200 children given dual citizenship
During the last ten months, 200 Lithuanian children also acquired the citizenship of other countries, the migration board reported.
According to the report, Lithuanian citizenship was acquired along with Russian (17 percent of all cases) and Belarusian (15 percent) nationality.
The next most common countries in the report were Great Britain, Italy, Turkey, Poland, Ukraine, Latvia and France.
A small amount of the children also acquired the citizenship of Albania, Israel, South Africa, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, Lebanon and Mexican.
A child acquires Lithuanian citizenship if one parent is a citizen of Lithuania, irrespective of where the child was born. Beyond that the country where the child is born is often given also.
In some of the cases, three nationalities were given. This can be when the child is born in a foreign country different to the countries of the parents – for example, Polish and Lithuanian parents living in Ireland.

Dear Tadeu Garcia,
I would advise you to address your issue to the Migration Department via email mdinfo@vrm.lt Each case is very individual, hence they should be able to provide you with a correct answer.

Hi all,
just wondering about this dual citizienship – my grandmother is from Lithuania she came to Brazil in 1927 with her family. Nowadays, she is the only Lithuanian blood still alive, her parents and siblings are died. Unfortunately, she does not speak Russian (one of the languages spoken at that time).
I am trying to find information on our relatives, because she believes that some cousins and uncles are still in Lithuania. Aside of that, I also wanted to find information conclusive info on the dual citizienship.
It seems that you would have to renounce your nationality to acquire the Lithuanian citizienship which for me, it is not interesting. Whether being possible or not I still want to find some relatives, if they are still alive.
My questions is: is it possible to have dual citizienship?
They should make sure Lithuania losses all it good citizens act. Only citizens from poor countries are likely to surrender their citizenship and ties. So know most people obtaining Lithuania citizenship will be doing on more economic grounds, and not ones on re-identifying with Lithuania. Real smart, with so many Lithuanians living abroad.
The only exceptions are abandoned children or children of stateless parents.
