Lithuania’s MP felt equal to Russian PM
Lithuania’ Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius is satisfied with a meeting with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin. Kubilius felt as an equal partner towards Putin, possibly because he did not ask for anything. The was the first time in seven years the Prime Ministers of the two countries meet.
“We really spoke very openly. I felt as an equal partner in the conversation on various topics, including history, which is usually the most sensitive issue for Lithuania. I think we discovered a suitable form of dialogue on other issues as well. I am not talking here only about energy, which we discussed as experts in some certain areas.”
“I was very anxious before coming here since I didn’t know what to ask for. I think that this helped to make the conversation very simple and frank,” Kubilius added jokingly.
Lithuania’s Prime Minister invited Russia’s Prime Minister Putin to attend a summit of the Council of the Baltic Sea states in Lithuania in the beginning of June. Putin’s aids informed the Lithuanian delegations that Putin will make his decision on the grounds of the level of participation in the even from the other countries. Germany’s Chancellor Angela Merkel already confirmed on 24 March that she will participate in the summit.
