Opposition aiming to win more posts in Seimas

The committee on rural affairs of the Seimas dismissed their chairman conservative Edmundas Pupinis vote five to three, with one abstention.

Only three members of the committee belong to the ruling coalition, so the opposition demanded that the leader has to be from the majority.

The dismissal has yet to be approved by vote in Seimas.

The opposition is also trying to take down the chairman of the committee of national security and defence, Arvydas Anusauskas.

In this committee, the votes of the majority and the opposition are balanced equally.

After the conservative Vidmantas Ziemelis abandoned his party and joined the Christian faction in the opposition, the four-parties ruling coalition lost its formal majority. Now they have 70 votes out of 141.

All the members of the coalition have been withdrawn from their missions outside the country to maintain the balance in voting.

Also, the coalition has ascertained support from the three-member faction of Lithuanian Peasant Popular Union.
