Nordic Ministers of Foreign Affairs: strengthen relations with the Baltic States
The Nordic countries share the same opinion that the foreign and security policy issues should get more attention on Nordic agenda and that the cooperation with the Baltic countries should be strengthened. The Swedish daily Sydsvenskan published a joint article by the five Nordic ministers of Foreign Affairs, representing Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Iceland and Finland.
“We have to go forward in order to keep the Nordic cooperation alive and dynamic. One of the ways to do that is to keep close contacts with the neighboring countries. Relations with Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia should be strengthened. We have to jump from declaration of intensions to action”, the ministers tell.
The ministers stress that some initiatives within the field of foreign policy are already implemented together with the Baltic States. For instance, the Nordic-Baltic Office at the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund. There’s also a wish expressed that the countries would try to hold on to one position in international organizations.
The political organization Nordic Council of Ministers that unites five Nordic countries was the first international organization to open its offices in the Baltic countries. The offices were established in 1991 and since then they have being developing Nordic-Baltic cooperation, administering mobility and grant programs and providing information about the Nordic countries.

Very good news. And it was a surprise to me that Nordic and Baltic countries have already cooperated in case of IMF and WB.
That’s a great news! We need to strengthen our collaboration further.
