Lithuania’s GDP growth the largest in EU in Q3 q-o-q

Per cent Eurostat announced that Lithuania’s GDP rose by 6.1 percent in the third quarter of 2009 versus the previous quarter.  This makes it the steepest quarterly increase across the European Union.  Lithuania was followed by Luxemburg (4.2 percent) and Slovakia (1.6 percent).

In comparison with the third quarter of the previous year Latvia’s GDP shrank by 4 and Estonia’s by 3 percent.  Sweden accordingly grew by 0,2 percent, Finland by 0,3 percent, Denmark and Poland by 0,6 percent.

However, compared with the third quarter of 2008, Lithuania’s GDP contracted by 14.2 percent in July-September 2009, making it one of the largest in the EU.  Latvia’s GDP accordingly shrunk by 19.3 percent and Estonia’s GDP respectively declined by 15.6 percent. The annual contraction in both countries was the largest in the EU.
