Lithuanians choose Obama as the most popular world person in 2009
Lithuanians have chosen the US President Barack Obama as the most popular world person in 2009, Lietuvos rytas daily writes. Obama receives this title in Lithuania for the second year in the row.
Some 36,6 percent gave their voice for the US President. The Pop singer Michael Jackson, with 4,2 percent came second. The Russian Prime Minister Putin received 2.9 percent and came third. Russia’s President Medvedev came in the forth place with 2.4 percent, followed by Pope Benedict XVI with 2.3 percent.
The Lithuanians voted for a USA president to be the most popular person in the world for the ninth time out of ten. President George W. Bush was chosen for six times, President Obama twice and President Bill Clinton came on the top of the list once in 2000. Russia’s President Putin headed the list in 2007.
According to the opinion poll some 38 percent of Lithuanians think that the most important event of 2009 was the World economic crisis. 27.6 percent thought that inauguration of President Obama was the most important event of 2009. The Swine flue came was the third most important event, followed by death of Michael Jackson. Elections to the European Parliament concluded top five events of 2009.
The most important person in Lithuania in 2009 is Lithuania’s President Grybauskaite who gathered 51.5 percent. The most important event in Lithuania was inauguration of the Lithuanian President Grybauskaite.
The opinion pall was conducted by Baltijos tyrimai. Some 1022 Lithuanians between 15 and 74 were questioned on November 23-30
