Lithuania to focus its exports to Scandinavia
The Lithuanian Government approved the Export Development Strategy for 2009-2013. According to the strategy its exports should focus on the Baltic Sea region markets; Scandinavia, Latvia and Estonia.
There are also plans to maintain and strengthening its positions in the European Union markets of Germany, United Kingdom, France, Poland and the Benelux countries. Exports should be also active in the traditional Eastern markets of Russia, Ukraine and Belarus, and increase cooperation with Kazakhstan, Caucasus, and the Arab countries, Israel, USA, Italy and the Balkan Countries.
In addition the Lithuanian enterprises to export to emerging economies of China, India the other Middle Eastern and Latin American Countries.
Much of attention will be given to those traditional industries that already have expertise, skilled workforce and competitive advantages, products and services to promote exports. In addition to the long-term economic viability, efforts will be concentrated on higher value-added products and services, export promotion and development.
January-August 2009 major Lithuanian export partners were Russia (12.8 per cent.), Latvia (10.2 per cent.), Germany (9.7 per cent.), Estonia (7.2 percent).
