38 pct of Russians dislike Lithuanians, 37 pct view them ‘rather favourably’
According to the latest opinion poll conducted by Pew Research Centre in September 38 percent of Russia’s population held a negative opinion towards Lithuania. This shows over 10 percent rice over last 18 years.
Some 13 percent of respondents in Russia said their opinion of Lithuanians was ‘very adverse’ and another 25 percent said their opinion was ‘rather adverse.’ Only 6 percent of those asked said they viewed Lithuanians ‘very favourably’ and 37 percent of respondents in Russia said they thought of Lithuanians ‘rather favourably.’
An analogous poll carried out in 1991. Then the Lithuanians were viewed in a better light in Russia. According to the pall conducted in 1991 some 10 percent of Russian respondents were of “very adverse” opinion and another 18 percent held a “rather adverse” stance.
Meanwhile, 17 percent of Lithuanian respondents said their opinion of Russians was unfavourable and 21 percent said they did not like Poles, as compared with 21 percent and 29 percent, respectively, 18 years ago.
