Kubilius in Sweden – be our Strategic Partner in N-Plant Project

Andrius Kubilius iLithuanian Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius invited the Swedish businesses to part as a strategic investor in the constriction of the New Nuclear Plant in Ignalina, to participate in the renovation projects and called discussed with his Swedish counterpart Fredrik Reinfeldt how to persuade the banks to start easing up the credit lines to the business.

Kubilius is currently in Stockholm where he also met with the Swedish Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeld and presented him with the business plan of building the New Nuclear Plant in Lithuania.

Lithuanian Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius currently on a visit in Sweden said that he had discussed at a meeting with the country’s officials the possibilities for Scandinavian banks to invest in large-scale projects including renovation of multi-flat buildings planned in Lithuania. 

He stated on 5 October to the BNS after the meeting “We see bit interest of state companies of some European countries – Germany or France. The attitude of Sweden’s largest companies is also important to us”.

At the meeting with the h Sweden’s Financial Markets Minister Mats Odell they discussed the ways of persuading the Nordic banks to relieves some credits to the suffering business since, according to Kubilius the “relative calmness” returning to international financial markets.

“We discussed ways to encourage banks that already have operations in Lithuania to be more active in such large-scale projects as renovation of multi-flat residential buildings and public and private partnership to be launched next year. The fact is that banks are still rather cautious and see some elements of risk both in Sweden and the Baltic states. We agreed it is important to join our efforts to show to the Scandinavian banks that risks should not be exaggerated,” said Kubilius to BNS.
