A drama is still unfolding in Kaunas, the second largest city of Lithuania.  Two persons already been shot dead, another threatened is under the police protection.  Such a drama never happened in Lithuania since independence.  Amongst the dead is Kaunas judge, that is also a first time in Lithuania’s history.  However, as story unveils the judges death has nothing to do with his work.

The drama began when the Lithuanian media reported that Kaunas regional court judge was shot dead close to his home at 08:30 am.  The judge Jonas Furmanavicius body was found with four gunshot wounds, three of which were in the pelvic area and one in the head.  The police looked at a few case scenarios not all of which were linked with Furmanavicius’ work.  The judge worked with few controversial cases before but the press picked up on another story related him.

Furmanavicius was recently accused of paedophilia  The allegations came on the internet from a Kaunas local Drasius Kedys. In August, delfi.lt news portal reported that Kedys had sent out almost 200 letters with DVD discs containing his daughter’s story about what three men had done to her. The men accused of paedophilia and child molesting included Furmanavicius and Andrius Usas, member of the Civil Democracy Party presidium.

Among recipients of the letters were about a dozen of parliamentarians, Lithuanian members of the European Parliament, all political parties, the media, officials. The English-language letter and the girl’s story with subtitles was also sent to Members of the European Parliament.  However, it was only one of the possibilities.

Few hours later after finding a body of another victim who died from the shot wounds it became apparent that the police should look for Mr Drasius Kedys.  Central police station of the Kaunas county said the body of Violeta Naruseviciene, the 29 year-old-woman was found at her home. A report about the murder was received at 12:30 pm.  The woman’s body was discovered by her daughter who just returned from school.  At the seen of crime a pistol „Beretta“ belonging to Drasius Kedys was found. 

The wanted Kedys earlier said to Delfi.lt portal that the paedophiles abused not only his daughter (by permission of his former girlfriend) but also the daughter of Violeta Naruseviciene.  The both women  were ‘leasing’ their daughters to the paedophiles.  He added that all three men and two women should be in the prison.

Two out of five are dead already.  Mr Kedys is still on run.
