Lithuanian Transport Minister will suggest to his Baltic counterparts to create a Pan Baltic Air company
The Baltic Transport Ministers gathered today for a traditional annual meeting. This year the meeting took place in Palanga resort .
The Lithuanian Minister Masiulis said to the Ziniu Radijas radio that he will suggest his Baltic counterparts to created a Pan Baltic Air Company between the three countries.
Lithuania’s national carrier FlyLAL went bankrupt this year and Vilnius is experiencing difficulties in attracting Air carriers to its international airport. According to some media reports the Air Estonia is also doing not its best, same as the AirBaltic, a Latvian company, which is dominating the Baltic market at the moment.
However, according to BNS AirBaltic carried 1.5 times less passengers Vilnius airport this year than last year. The company told the BNS that it provided service for some 243,700 passengers to and from Vilnius Airport in January-August, and that is down by 374,300 passengers a year earlier.
The BNS states that the number of passengers carried by the company to and from Vilnius in August plummeted almost 2.2 times, to 30,100, from 65,800 in August 2008.
