Kubilius doubts if Seimas should repeatedly investigate allegation of CIA prison in Lithuania

Andrius KubiliusThe Lithuanian Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius has expressed his doubts on creating a commission to investigate claims of a possible secret CIA prison in Lithuania, reported by the ABC News.  However, the President Grybauskaite thinks otherwise.

Mr Kubilius referred to a statement from the Chairman of  the Seimas Foreign Affairs Committee that the committee already conducted an investigation on an alleged CIA prison under the request of the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly.

Prime Minister Kubilius said following to the Ziniu radijas station this morning “It (the Committee on Foreign Affairs) stated very clearly that there have been no such prisons or interrogation area in Lithuania and we do not have new information to this day to reverse this conclusion.  Now, as one of the US top media company reports these allegations, we could repeat the investigation, i.e. launch a probe in one or another parliamentary committee, but I am convinced that we would get the same answer”.

The President of Lithuania Grybauskaite has a different opinion.  During her visit to Brussels yesterday she stated that Lithuania will investigate the allegations; “Lithuania will be investigating it and parliament has already declared a special committee which will be investigating the case.”

The Deputy Speaker of Seimas Mr Sukys also called for thorough investigation of the allegation.
