One more blow to Lithuanian dairy producers from Russia

Lithuania’s dairy producers will suffer one more blow as Russia moves to raise duties on cheese imports, the Lietuvos Rytas daily reports on 26 August.

Russia’s Prime Minister Vladimir Putin has signed a decree on the raising of duties levied on imported cheese.  As a result the Lithuanian dairy producers will suffer one more blow as Russia to raise duties on cheese imports, the Lietuvos Rytas daily reports on 26 August.   

Accoring to the Lietuvos Rytas the new regime, under which the duty rate shall comprise 15 percent of cheese value but not less than 1.72 litas per kilogramme (previously it was 30 eurocents per kilogramme), will come into effect in September.

The daily quoted an executive of Rokiskio Suris Mr Trumpa saying that “There are two options – either the prices of our cheese products will increase by some 7 percent in Russia or we will have to cut costs, wages, milk purchase prices.”

According to Lietuvos Rytas Rokiskio Suris exports up to 20 percent of its cheese output to Russia.

For the time being , 4 Lithuania’s dairy producers, which were banned from exporting their products to Russia are still waiting for Russia’s officials verdict to specify the quantity of Tetracycline found in their products.
