The Russians claim to know a secret CIA prison’s location in Lithuania
The Russian state run ‘Russia Today’ TV channel claimed that it knows the location of the secret CIA prison, so called ‘black side prison’. The channel runs a story claiming that this ‘black side prison’ was located in Rūdininkai area, in a former Soviet military base. The reporter says ‘It is here, about twenty minutes drive South of Vilnius, that some believe was a location of a secret prison’. This report was running as number one news on the channel. A suicide attack in rebellious Chechnya were four people were killed was news number two.
Lithuanian daily Lietuvos Rytas in its editorial today wrote.
Let us assume that it is theoretically possible to find a place for such facility in Lithuania. However, could the Lithuania military and its State Secret Service Department have kept the secret four years longer than Poland? It sounds like a fairy tale. In such a case, despite a possible existence of the prison, we should be proud of our military. It looks like they are tougher than the CIA guys, at least they able to keep their mouth shut…
Let us assume that Lithuania’s leader were not aware of the facility. However, a lot of lower rank officers must have known about its existence. It is almost impossible to believe that such information could stay a secret for four years.
Then Lietuvos Rytas writes.
However, the news is spread out and Lithuania is placed in uncomfortable position towards its allies. Why this information came out now, but not in 2005 when the news about a similar prison was discussed in Poland?
Kremlin is aiming to divide the old EU and new EU member states that are favourable towards the US. Now it is a convenient time for that, when President Adamkus, a stanch supporter of the stronger relations with the US is out of office and being replaced by President Grybauskaite who would like Lithuania to cooperate more with the old EU members and with Russia.
Such ’news’ about the secret CIA prison at the time being could have an effect of detonator, in seeking to increase distrust in the USA.
Knowing that the Russian spies have a lot of experience in passing through information to the Western media which useful to Moscow. Who could deny that this is not the case with the ‘ABC News’ information? Lietuvos Rytas concludes.
Thus who could deny that the ABC News source ‘Former CIA officials’ and Russia’s RT TV source identified, as ‘some believe’ is actually the same source of information?
