A first offical conversation between Lithuanian and the Russian presidents in 8 years
On August 18 Lithuania’s President Grybauskaite had a telephone conversation with the President of the Russian Federation Medvedev. It is an historical moment since this was a first official conversation between the Lithuanian and Russian leaders over the past 8 years.
The both leaders focused on the difficulties Lithuanian carriers and dairy companies recently encountered in Russia. President Medvedev promised to refrain from exceptionally strict requirements for Lithuanian carriers and dairy imports.
The President office press release stated that Grybauskaite highlighted the need for Lithuanian and Russia to support mutually beneficial economic relations, particularly, in the face of the global economic crisis. “Misunderstandings between institutions is detrimental for both Lithuania and Russia. I am convinced that there is enough potential between our countries for development of economic relations, and I suggest that all problems should be solved by way of an open dialogue only,” the Lithuanian president said.
