Today the Lithuanian and Russian customs head will discuss situation of carriers

It is already a second week when a few hundred Lithuanian trucks are blocked from entering Russia from Latvia, Belarus and Kazakhstan. There is a queue of about 20 kilometers of them stuck just on the Russian Latvian Border.

As Alfa.lt reports that the chiefs of the Lithuanian and Russian customs will meet today in Moscow to held talks on the situation. The Russians have tightened customs controls for all Lithuanian careers that are entering Russia. Russian customs authorities maintain that some of the Lithuanian carriers are constantly breaching the Russian customs rules. This was also admitted by the Lithuania’s President Grybauskaite during a Public television programme on 11 August. However, this collective punishment measure has prevented all Lithuanian carriers from entering Russia.

According to Alfa.lt the meeting of acting chief of the Lithuanian Customs Department Jonas Miskinis and first deputy of the Russian Federal Customs Service Vladimir Malinin is scheduled for 1200 Vilnius time.

Russia’s Federal Customs Service maintains that the outcome of today’s meeting will determine application of the stricter customs procedures upon individual and possibly fraudulent Lithuanian carriers.
