Lithuania expects to have new Nuclear plant’s business plan ready in September
Lithuania’s Minister of Energy Arydas Sekmokas informed the Lithuania’s Public Radio on 3 August that a business plan for planned new nuclear power plant in Ignalina should be ready in September. A consortium led by Britain’s investment bank N M Rothschild & Sons is preparing this plan.
Last week, during a press conference Lithuania’s President Dalia Grybauskaite has shed some confusion in admitting that Lithuania should calculate before deciding whether or not to build a new nuclear power plant. She stated that it might turn out that Lithuanian will not need the Nuclear Plant, since the neighbouring countries are planning to build two nuclear plants next to Lithuania.
Furthermore, the President stated that it could be more feasible to invest into the green energy instead. During the press conference President Grybauskaite mentioned that the biggest Lithuania’s energy market problem is not a lack of electricity as such, but a monopolised Lithuania’s energy market.
