Lithuania is in competition with Malaysia and China to host the Global Economic Symposium (GES), organized by the Kiel Institute of World Economy, in their home country in 2014.
Every year the GES brings together over 400 leading decision makers from politics, business, finance, academia and the civil society. José Manuel Barroso is the Patron of GES, which has already hosted numerous Nobel Prize winners as speakers and participants. Innovative approaches, solutions and ideas are discussed during the two days of the Symposium, often bringing together the right players from politics, business and academia to bring the best solutions to life.
The Deutsch Akademischer Austauschdienst Alumni Club in Lithuania decided to be the official host of the GES and has been working together with Vladas Lašas and a couple dozen volunteers to prepare Lithuania’s country presentation.
Along with a standard proposal application, the Lithuanian volunteer team is hoping to grab the attention of the GES Advisory Board, who will decide where the next GES outside of Germany will take place, by broadcasting a short welcoming film. This film may be found on Youtube via this link: GES invitations to Vilnius in 2014 .
With the support of President Dalia Grybauskaitė and many other government officials, members from the business, banking, academia, media and art societies, Lithuania’s application will be considered at the GES in Rio de Janeiro early next week.
Daumantas Katinas, chair of the DAAD Alumni Club Lithuania will be travelling to Brazil on Monday to hold a meeting with Professor Snower, President of the Kiel Institute of World Economy, Dr. Brown, Executive Director of the GES and Dr. Scholz, Deputy Executive Director of the GES.

Amazing! We never received such an invitation before and really feel all the hard work, fire and heart Lithuania put into this!
