Ambassador for Relations with the World Lithuanian Community is Appointed

In order to strengthen ties with Lithuanian organizations abroad, Gintė Damušis was appointed Ambassador for relations with the World Lithuanian Community, urm.lt reports.

“The Ambassador’s diplomatic experience and awareness of the issues related to Lithuanians living abroad will strengthen ties between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the World Lithuanian Community,” head of Lithuanian diplomacy Audronius Ažubalis said commenting on the appointment of the Ambassador.

This appointment is expected to further engage Lithuanian communities abroad into the implementation of the “Global Lithuania” strategy, to reinforce the development of education projects for world Lithuanians and rally support of the diaspora for strategic issues of Lithuania.

In cooperation with the Board of the World Lithuanian Community, the Foreign Ministry will organise commemorative activities all around the world marking the 80th anniversary of the transatlantic flight by Steponas Darius and Stasys Girėnas in 2013, organise the events dedicated to the Unity Day of Lithuanians of the World, engage Lithuanians living abroad in celebration of the 100th anniversary of Lithuania’s statehood and promote the cooperation between world Lithuanians and Lithuanian non-governmental organisations.

“We aim to make better use of the long-term cooperation with the World Lithuanian Community and broaden the scope of activities, expanding our mutually beneficial partnership,” Damušis says.
