On 27 August, the Vilnius Regional Administrative Court upheld a complaint of the applicants – Vladimir Peftiev, a citizen of Belarus and entities controlled by him, namely ‘Beltechexport’ ‘Sport-pari’ and Private Unitary enterprise BT Telecommunications – against the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania. The applicants complained against a decision of the Foreign Ministry not to grant exemptions from sanctions, which put them on the EU’s visa-ban and asset-freeze lists.

The MFA got acquainted with the arguments that formed the basis of the ruling of the Administrative Court and decided to appeal, because the Ministry finds the arguments of the Court’s judgement to be unfounded and insufficient and believes that the relevant circumstances were not properly evaluated, including the fact that exemptions are not applied automatically.

The MFA refrains from making any further comments on this issue because the judicial process will continue.
