According to data announced by alfa.lt on 27th of August, during the first half of 2012 Vilnius accommodation institutions have hosted 338 453 visitors, which overall had spent 669 894 nights there. According to Statistics Lithuania, in comparison to the same period in 2011, the overall number of visitors have risen by 12 percent, while the numbers of overnight stays rose by 10 percent.
During the first half of 2012 the occupation of Vilnius hotel rooms’ was up to 55,6 percent in comparison to the 51,9 percent during the same period in 2011. The bed occupation during the same period of 2012 was 41,3 percent in comparison to the 38,8 percent in 2011. The highest occupation of rooms and beds in 2012 was stated to be during June – 73,9 and 57,5 percent respectively.
During the first half of 2012 the highest number of Vilnius visitors was stated in June – 74 139, 14,3 percent of which were Lithuanians from other cities and regions, while 85,7 percent were foreigners.
Vilnius Tourism Information Centre data has also indicated increase in the numbers – during the first half of 2012, the centre has been visited by 45 267 travellers, most of whom were foreigners (35 018), although around 23 percent (10244) were Lithuanians. In comparison to the same period in 2011, the overall number of visitors rose by 16,93 percent. The busiest month was in June (10 895), while the least visitors came during February (3 957). Even though the numbers of Belorussian tourists have risen evidently (2 359), the highest numbers of visitors remain to be from Russia (8 130), Poland (4 498) and Germany (3 845).
