Darius Semaška, Chief Advisor to the President, should begin working as an Ambasador to the Netherlands in October, alfa.lt reported on 23 August.
He is proposed to take this position from 2 October.
On 1 October Vaidotas Verba, current Lithuanian representative to the Kingdom of the Netherlands and Permanent Representative of Lithuania to the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons is to be recalled.
The President’s Office is calling D. Semaška’s appointment “a normal diplomatic practice” according to which diplomats are rotated every 3-4 years.
D. Semaška has worked as an Advisor to the President Dalia Grybauskaite since July 2009.
In Lithuania Ambassadors are appointed and dismissed by the President upon the recommendation of the Government the candidacy having been deliberated in the Seimas Foreign Relations Committee.
