Irina Rozova, Valdemaras Tomaševskis, Vaidotas PrunskusThe leader of Electoral Action of Poles (LLRA), MEP Waldemar Tomaszewski, confirmed the merger with Kazimiera Prunskienė’s Lithuanian People’s Party and the Russian Alliance. Both of these parties are to take part in the election under the LLRA flag, delfi.lt reports.

According to W. Tomaszewski, LLRA is currently discussing the electoral programme with the partners.

Samogitian Party was also invited to join

W. Tomaszewski has revealed that the People’s Party was not the only political force with which the talks to consolidate for the election campaign were held. Purportedly, the most active negotiations have been conducted with the Samogitian Party.

According to Vaidotas Prunskus, K. Prunskienė’s son and the temporary leader of the People’s Party, his party has discovered “many similarities” with the Russian Alliance and the LLRA.

He also motivated the decision to unite with the LLRA by the wish to consolidate the society.

Irina Rozova, the leader of Russian Alliance, has expressed the satisfaction with the cooperation between her party and the LLRA that has been lasting for some time already. She was also happy to welcome the People’s Party to their ranks.

“Our parties have long left behind the minorities-only agenda. We work for Lithuania,” said I. Rozova.

Would like a coalition with partners in Vilnius council

However, W. Tomaszewski said he would only leave the European Parliament in case the LLRA is involved in the formation of ruling coalition. According to him, centre-left parties are the preferred partners in coalition formation. Among such are the current partners at the Vilnius Municipality Council – the Labour Party, Social Democrats, Artūras Zuokas’ Union “Yes”.

The issue of Visaginas NPP – many-sided

In response to the question regarding the Visaginas nuclear plant project, the leader of LLRA said he supported the nuclear energy, although he does not feel certain about this specific project.

”We do not have a clearly defined stance. In principle, we support the nuclear plant. Having a nuclear plant would not do harm. But it should be considered, whether there is enough capacity, is it possible to negotiate with partners and is it not too expensive. There are many questions, more than answers,” explained W. Tomaszewski.

Meanwhile, V. Prunskus stated that it is necessary to consider the results of referendum on the Visaginas NPP. “Firstly we should wait for our people’s opinion”, said the leader of People’s Party.
