Linas Kleiza prior to beginning training in Palanga for London Olympics has “earned” himself an administrative penalty, Alfa.lt reported on 30 July.
Police has registered a violation on July 12 in Elektrenai municipality. In Pylimas village the speed limit is 50 KM/H. However, Linas Kleiza in his luxury “Bentley Mulsanne” was driving at a speed of 110 KM/H.
Police who registered a violation have written up a protocol. Since basketball player exceeded allowed speed limit by 50 KM/H, the case was handed over for hearing to the court. But due to London Olympics 27-year old Kaunas-born basketball player could not take part in the hearing on Monday, July 30. However, he did not dispute the violation. On August 8 the athlete will find out what the court has decided.
According to the code of conduct for exceeding speed limit over 50 KM/H there is a fine of one thousand to one thousand five hundred Litas with taking away of a driver’s license for a period of one to three months or seven days of administrative arrest with taking away of a driver’s license for a period of six months. For drivers with less than two years of driving experience the fine is one thousand to one thousand five hundred Litas with taking away of a driver’s license for a period of one year to one year and six months. For drivers with no driver’s license the fine is one thousand five hundred to two thousand Litas or administrative arrest of twenty to thirty days.
Linas Kleiza began his career in basketball at Montrose Christian School in U.S. In July 2010 he was signed by the Toronto Raptors and was offered a four-year contract of USD18.8 million.
