President met with UK’s Minister for Europe

President Dalia Grybauskaitė during her visit in London met with Mr. David Lidington, the Minister for Europe of the United Kingdom to discuss cooperation between Lithuania and the United Kingdom within the European Union, Europe’s economic situation and negotiations on the EU financial framework 2014 -2021, Presidential Palace reported.

The British Minister for Europe was interested to hear Dalia Grybauskaitė’s views on the upcoming EU budget negotiations. The President and the United Kingdom’s Minister for Europe agree that the current economic situation in the European Union calls for further observance of strict fiscal discipline, yet they underlined that active implementation of measures to promote economic growth and competitiveness were also needed.

At a meeting, President Dalia Grybauskaitė presented Lithuania’s position in negotiating the EU’s new financial framework for the period 2014 -2021. According to the President, this meeting is yet another proof of active cooperation with the United Kingdom.
