Wednesday, July 4, Vilnius - President Dalia Grybauskaitė extended on behalf of the Lithuanian people and on her own behalf congratulations to the President of the United States of America, Barack Obama, on Independence Day, Press Service of the President reports.
In her congratulatory message, the President pointed out that this very special holiday was celebrated – together with millions of Americans – by more than seven hundred thousand Lithuanian Americans. She added that their active engagement in the country’s political, cultural and economic life contributed to building a rich, prosperous and culturally diverse America, while at the same time making bonds and contacts between the two nations stronger.
“I warmly recall, Mr. President, the conversation we had several months ago on the fringes of the NATO summit held in your native city of Chicago. The North Atlantic Alliance is the key guarantor of security and stability across the entire Euro-Atlantic space. Therefore, I would like to once again congratulate you on the successful organization of this summit of great significance to the whole of the Alliance, where important decisions were made towards further strengthening NATO and better ensuring the security of each member state,” the President wrote in her letter of congratulations.
Dalia Grybauskaitė expressed her delight with the deepening dialogue and cooperation between Lithuania and the United States of America. Over the past several years, the President wrote, our joint efforts and your, Mr. President, personal support and understanding have significantly advanced the positive and comprehensive relationship existing between our countries in security, nuclear safety, energy, and other areas, while our bilateral ties have been enriched by new initiatives important to our nations and to other countries. She emphasized her strong hope that they would be continued and developed effectively.
President Dalia Grybauskaitė wished the U.S. President and the people of America a happy day of celebration and every possible success.
