On 14 January, during the Lithuanian Peasant Popular Union’s congress , it was decided to modernize the name of the party. From now on the party will be called Lithuanian Peasant and Greens Union. 302 delegates have voted in favour of changing the name, 15min.lt reports.
“Word “greens” reflects what this political party has been doing for the past two years. We are the only parliamentary party which stands for the green ideas – we speak out for Lithuania without nuclear power, for renewable energy development, which creates jobs in Lithuania”, – stated the leader of the party Ramūnas Karbauskis, re-elected for the second term of office.
According to R. Karbauskis, peasants will always lean upon “green” ideas, because non-artificial, natural food and country-side preservation is the harmonious basis of the state development. R.Karbauskis states that today people of both the city and the country have a common goal of preservation of Lithuania’s unique and clean nature.
“Regardless of the modernized name, we will remain the only political party which defends and will continue to defend interests of Lithuania’s regions. We will continue to strive for strengthening of self-governments”, – said Ramūnas Karbauskis.
